4.1.1 Geo-mapping Nano-science Output

The 1st Benchmark report presents a geographical map of nanotechnology basic research output in various cities in the world.  Through the augment ation of the publication data with geo-code data, and the use of the Google Earth tool, enables the mapping of publication activity. A screen shot of this type of output is shown in the figure in the right. In the sample, used to generate this figure, all cities with at least 100 Nano publications between 1998 and 2007 are shown for Europe.
