Enhancing Reflectivity about Priorities in Nanoscience

Professor Richard Jones, the strategic advisor for nanotechnology to the UK funding council for Engineering and Physical Sciences EPSRC, has contributed extensively to the debate on responsible nanotechnology. A key piece is “Public Engagement and Nanotechnology, The UK Experience” (Jones, 2009), in which he reviews public engagement activities with nanotechnology in the UK including the EPSRC attempt at integrating engagement in decision making on priorities in funding for Grand Challenges in nanomedicine. He proposes to investigate “whether embedding public engagement more closely in the scientific process actually helps to produce better science.”
