3.4.9 Economic information for present products

The world market for nanofiltration membranes increased from $89.1 million in 2006 to about $97.5 million in 2007 according to a BCC report. It is predicted that the world market should reach $310.5 million by 2012 with a compound annual growth rate of 26.1%. The most important market is the water treatment sector which accounts for roughly three-quarter of the global market for nanofiltration products. It is expected that this market will grow from $70.9 million in 2007 to $238.2 million by 2012 with a compound annual growth rate of 27.4%.

There are no public data for Ultra-Web sales through Donaldson Company, Inc. From the financial report 2007 it can be estimated that the company earned a double-digit millions revenue with their nanofiltration product[37]. Donaldson Company is a worldwide leading manufacturer and offers Ultra-Web filters as replacement filters for Donaldson Torit cartridge dust collectors as well as for all other popular dust collectors from other manufacturers. Furthermore, the company plans to offer its expertise to customers from the defence sector[38].This is expected to result in an increase of revenues. Since Donaldson, Inc. is the world market leader for nanofiltration membranes one can roughly estimate that they earn at least 50% of the world market revenues. Therefore, $50 million will be a realistic estimation. Annual sales for Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. now approach $100 million. Assuming 10% of their total revenues for nanoproducts will lead to $10 million.

The Stuttgart supplier MAHLE offers its integrated modular filter system called MAHLE SYMMETRIX since 2007. The MAHLE Group ranges internationally among the top 3 system suppliers for air management systems and liquid management systems. Therefore revenues will be estimated to $10 to $20 million.
