4.3.6 Current situation within the EU

Flat glass producers are mainly located in Japan and the US. Just one major producer is located in France (Saint-Gobain). Self-Cleaning flat glass with TiO2 nanoparticles has been introduced in Europe in 2001 (Pilkington UK). Regarding the photovoltaic (PV) industry Europe has a very strong position together with Japan and by now also China.
