10.1.1 Definition

As nanomaterials are intended engineered (man made)  nanoparticles having at least one dimension in the nanometer (nm) range (1nm = 10^-9 m⁾ or, more precisely, in the range between 1 and 100 nm. With nanocomposites we refer to composites prepared by adding the above said nanomaterials in a matrix. When the nanoparticles are on the surface we refer at the resulting products as nano-hybrids^.
